A small deciduous tree with blackish green smooth bark.

Leaves are alternate, lanceolate, thinly chartaceous, entire, long-acuminate with an apiculate tip, glaucous beneath.

Flowers open in February to March before leaves.

It grows in sunny secondary forests in the warm temperate or subtropical zone.

It is planted for garden tree. The wood is used for toothpicks. The fruits have been collected to make perfume.
