A medium sized evergreen tree with blakish brown bark.

Leaves are alternate, with skin surface.The petioles are long.

This is the most common Quercus in Japan and used for the hedges and gardentree.

The wood is used for buildings, utensils, fuels.

Distribution ; Hoshu, Shikoku, Kyushu, Ryukyu, Formosa, China, Himalayas
