Asebi
Pieris japonica


An evergreen shrub with greyish brown fissured bark.

Leaves are alternate, coriaceous, serrulate, acute at the apex.

White pendulous many flowers open in March to May.

It grows commonly on sunny hills and mountains of the warm to cool temperate zone and the subalpine zone.

The wood is used for alcove posts, turneries, fuels. It is planted for garden trees.

Distribution ; Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu
