A small evergreen tree with greyish brown smooth bark.

Leaves are alternate, coriaceous, narrowly obovate, denticulate, acute at the apex.

Petioles are 10 mm long.

In winter white and fragrant flowers open densely.

Pome ripens yellow and edible.

It grows in the warm temperate zone preferring calcareous area.

The wood is used for sticks, wood swords, combs.

Distribution ; Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu, China
