Hydrangea macrophylla var. macrophylla


A deciduous shrub with pale greyish brown fissured bark.

Leaves are opposite, oval to oblong, acute at the apex, deltoid- serrate on the margin.

They are thick, lustrous and glabrous above, pale green beneath.

Flowers open in June to July on new shoots. Sterile flowers are pale purplish or nearly white.

It grows on low hills near the sea shore.

It is planted for garden tree.

Ajisai (Hydrangea Otaksa) is the Japanese garden plant and very beautiful for many sterile flowers.
