Leaves are decussate, undivided, ovate, deeply cordate at the base, shallowly serrate.
Petioles are long, with infrated base, encircling the stem.
The main veins are 5-7 at the base, impressed above, raised beneath.
It is called Marubakaede on account of the shape of the leaf.
It grows on mountainous places in the cooltemperate zone. As Acer genus it is a peculiar species in appearance.
The wood is used for boxes, chopsticks. It is planted for garden trees.
