Leaves are opposite, palmately 9-lobed, shallowlly cordate to truncate at the base. The lobes are narrowly ovate to broadly lanceolate, acuminate, with simple or irregularly double serrations, deep green and somewhat lustrous above, paler and persistent white hairs on nerves beneath.
Petioles are 3-6 cm long and white-pubescent.
Flowering in April to June with the leaves.
Samaras ripening in October.
This maple is commonly found on mountain of the cool temperate zone in Japan, favering sunny places as on ridges and along streams.
It is planted for garden trees.
