Murasakishikibu
Callicarpa japonica


A deciduous shrub with dark greyish brown smooth bark.

Leaves are decussately opposite, obovate, long acuminate at the apex, serrulate on the margin except near the base.

Berry-like drupes ripen to purple in autumn.

It grows widely at sunny mesic sites in the warm to cool temperate zone.

The wood is used for handles of implements, sticks, chopsticks.

Distribution ; Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu, Ryukyu, Formosa, Korea, China
