A deciduous small tree with purplish brown smooth bark.

Leaves are alternate, membraneous, ovobate oblong, coarsely undulate on the margin.

Lateral nerves are impressed above and distinctly raised beneath. Petioles are 1cm long.

Numerous pale yellowish green flowers open in May to July.

This tree is found in the cool and warm temperate mountains.

In villages people make baskets using the shoots.

Distribution ; Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu
