Leaves are opposte, ovate-elliptic, acuminate at the apex.
Flowers open in July to September in terminal panicles. Bisexual flowers are white and small.
It is widely found on sunny places in the cool or warm temperate zone.
In Hokkaido it is called Sabita.
The wood is used for tooth-picks, pegs, sticks. From the roots one can make good tabaco pipe.
