A prickly deciduous shrub with gray and peeling bark.

Leaves are alternate, imparipinnate.

Leaflets are ovate-elliptic to oblong, serrulate with acute teeth with glandular tips, pubescent or nearly glabrous above, paler and pubescent especially densely on the midrib beneath.

Flowers in June, pale pinkish, solitary and terminal on new shoots.

Hips ripening yellow in September to October.

This rose has a restricted area in the cool-temperate zone around Mts. Fuji and Hakone.

It is praized for Bonsai and planted in garden.

Distribution ; Central Honshu (Around Fuji volcanic zone)
