Leaves are alternate, elliptic-lanceolate, long acuminate at the apex, acute at the base, serrulate with incurved teeth terminated, deep green and lustrous above, glaucous beneath.
Flowers in April to May with new leaves.
Capsules ripening brown in May to June.
This willow is widely distributed in Japan to continental Asia, preferring wettish places along rivers and by lakes.
The wood, light and soft, is used for match-sticks, utensils.
