Leaves are opposite, obovate, coriaceous, entire on the margin, deep green and lustrous above.

This tree is widely found in the warm temperate zone, prefering calcareous region.

The wood, yellow with high durability, is used for combs, seals, chessmen, rulers. It is planted for garden trees and Bonsai.
