Leaves are alternate, broadly oblanceolate to obovate, subentire and ciliated with brown hairs.

Pale reddish purple flowers open solitary from terminal in April to May.

It grows in the warm temperate zone and the lower part of the cool temperate zone.

It is highly appreciated as garden trees.
