Leaves are nearly opposite, with prominent 3 main veins, entire and undulate on the margin.

This species is one of representative trees of the warm temperate forests.

The wood is used for utensils, furnitures, buildings, fuels. The oil from seeds is used for suppostories and confectioeries.

Distribution ; Honshu, shikoku, Kyushu, Ryukyu, South Korea, China
