Yamaurushi
Rhus tricocarpa


A deciduous small tree with pale greyish brown smooth bark. When one cut the bark, it exudes milky juice and turns black.

Leaves are alternate, imparipinnate. Leaflets are ovate, acuminate with an obutuse tip, entire on the margin.

It grows commonly on mountainous area in the cool to warm temperate zone.

The wood is used for ring snowshoes. The young leaves are eaten as boiled green.

Distribution ; Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu, Southern Kuriles, Korea, China
