　落葉樹、樹高１２ｍ。
　葉は、３出複葉、小葉は大き目の楕円形、１０〜１５ｃｍ、全縁、葉先は尖る。
　花は、線状の斑紋が入った赤紫色、枝先から垂れ下がる長い花序を出す。
　英名、現地名；Butterfly pea、Blue pea、sombreiro、Fairchild pigeonwings、bohio、 carauta
　ブラジル原産。
