An evergreen tall tree with dull grey and smooth bark.

Leaves are in cluster of five and the cross section is trianglar with two whitish faces.

This species is scatteredly found in the subalpine forests of Central Honshu and rarely in Shikoku.

The wood is used for building, civil engineering, vehicles.The seed is edible.

Distribution ; Honshu, Shikoku, Korea, Manchuria, Ussuri
