Leaves are linear and notched or roundish at the apex.They have white stomate bands beneath.

This species is one of the main tree consisting of subalpine forests in Central Honshu and growing intermingled with Abies Mariesii,Tsuga diversifolia,Picea jezoensis var. hondoensis.

The wood is used for buildings, packings, paper pulp.
